Dental Implant Placement

  1. Maintain soft diet during the first two weeks.
  2. Take medication as prescribed by the dentist:
    1. Pain relief medication: Take 1-2 tablets only when necessary.
    2. Antibiotics (prescribed in some cases): Must take the complete dosage prescribed.
  3. On the first day after the surgery, even if there is no swelling, it is recommended to apply cold pack (or ice wrapped in a small towel) to the area of the face closet to the wound to help reduce swelling that will accurate on the following days. However, do not suck on ice cube.
  4. The patient may experience some discomfort when was swelling for a few days after implant placement.
  5. Return to your dentist at the end of one week after implant placement for check-up.

Oral Sedation

  1. Do not eat or drink anything ( except plain water ) for at least 4 hours prior to the appointment.
  2. If the patient develops fever or cold before the appointment. please contact Sok Chea Dental Clinic to consult the pediatric dentist.
  3. After taking oral sedation medication. patient may appear agitated and cry beforebeing completely sedated.

Post-Operative Instructions:

    1. There should be more than one adult accompanying the patient home so that the non-drive can care for him\her during the trip.
    2. Place the patient in a comfortable position while keeping an eye on him\her until fully awake.
    3. Upon being awake. the patient may drink and eat but only soft diet is recommended during the first day.
    4. It is also common for some patients to remain asleep almost the whole day. To prevent dehydration, the patient should be awaken withen 4 hours after the treatment to be given liquid or soft food.

Root Canal Treatment

    1. Pain may persist for the first few days after the treatment. Pain relief medication can be taken if necessary.
    2. During the first week after the root canel treatment. Avoid chewing any kind of food on the treated side. After the first week up until completion of the permanent restoration of the treated tooth to avoid tooth fracture.
    3. Contact Sok Chea Dental Clinic if the pain persists for more than a few days after treatment or if gum swelling occurs.

Local Anesthesia

Special attention required for young children, elderly patients and medically compromised patient
  1. To avoid injury inside the mouth. There should be no chewing or biting of lips, checks or tongue while the area is still numb. The numbness will gradually wear off in 2-3 hours.
  2. During the first 24 hours, chew food by using another side of the teeth that have no been treated.
  3. If lips or tongue have been accidentally bitten. the wound will be swollen with white or yellowwhite plaque covering it. Do not rub or apply any medication to the wound. The wound will be disappear by itself in approximately 7-10 days without scar. Pain relief medication can be taken if neccessary.

Oral Surgery

To follow the same procedure as the for Tooth Extraction but with additional recommendation as follow : 

 

  1. On the first day after the surgery, even if there is no swelling, it is recommended to apply cold pack (or ice wrapped in small towel) to the area of the face closest to the wound to help reduct swelling that will occur on the following days. However, do not suck in ice cubes.
  2. The swelling usually start on the second day after the surgery and continue throughout the first week. During this time, limit strenuous sports and water sports.
  3. Maintain soft diet during the first week.
  4. Return to your dentist at the end of one week for surture removal (if indicated by your dentist).

Scale or Periodontal Surgery

    1. Teeth sensitivity and slight discomfort of the gum are common symptoms during the first few days after scaling. Avoid sour tasting food and extremely cold or extremely hot food during that period.
    2. Maintain soft diets for the first week after gum surgery. During this period. Limit strenuous sports and water sports.
    3. Do not rinse your mouth vigorously for 24 hours after gum surgery. Keep your teeth and mouth clean by brushing gently after meal but avoid touching the  wound.
    4. Take medications as prescribed by the dentist:
      1. Pain relief medication: Take 1-2 tablets only when necessary.
      2. Antibiotics (prescried in some cases) : Must take the complete dosage prescribed.
      3. Special mouth-rinse (use as recommended by the dentist).

Tooth Extraction

  1. Bite the gauze firmly for 1 hour (1/2 hour for baby tooth) to help stop bleeding. If bleeding persist, change to new gauze and continue biting firmly for another 1/2 to 1 hour or until the bleeding stops.
  2. Do not rinse your mouth vigorously for 24 hours after the treatment. Keep teeth and moth clean by brushing gently after meal by avoid touching the wound.
  3. During the first week after the treatment, gently rinse your mouth with warm salt water (1/2 teaspoon of salt with 1 glass of warm water) several times a day to help heal the wound.
  4. Take medication as prescribed by the dentist:
    1. Pain relief medication : Take 1-2 tablets only when necessary.
    2. Antibiotics (prescribed in some cases) : Must take the complete dosage prescribed.
